The Safari Blue Crew
We pride ourselves on a happy crew. Many are former subsistence fishermen from Fumba village and have worked with Safari Blue since the late nineties.
Our crew can speak English, Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
Without our wonderfully loyal local staff it would be impossible to deliver our amazing Safari Blue sailing experiences. They have particularly stepped up with the new Covid training and procedures so that we can keep open and still give visitors to Zanzibar great days out.

Behind the Scenes
Safari Blue provides employment for over 80 local staff. Apart from the Crew in Fumba, we have boat and engine mechanics, cooks, kitchen staff, food and beverage buyers, drivers, office staff and since 2021 staff for our new Sand Bar on Kwale Island.
Eleanor
Safari Blue is owned and personally managed by Eleanor Griplas. She believes in creating worthwhile, sustainable employment and training.
She doesn’t stop with Safari Blue. Eleanor is well-known and respected throughout Zanzibar. She contributes by supporting local schools and providing student sponsorships, outings for children and youth groups, infrastructure improvements in Fumba, and is an active member of the Stone Town Rotary Club raising money for local causes.
