Khamisi started out as our accounts clerk in 1999. He was promoted to Head guide and Guest Experience Manager in 2003. He is fluent in 5 languages, now is a father to 8 children and is the smiley face of Safari Blue.

Zaharani is, like all our boat crew, from Fumba village. He works hard to make sure that the boats and crew are ready for the Safari Blue day. He is the captain of our largest dhow, Lydia.

Abbas can be found taking care of guests on the Private Charter and also is second in command of Lindi dhow.

In charge of the fibre support boats and taking care of the snorkelling equipment.

Super snorkeling guide and excellent with the clients. The kindest, most gentle person you will be lucky enough to meet.

Asha is head of the female crew and always on hand with her coffee pot and a bottle of Amarula!

Behind the scenes
Safari Blue provides employment for over 80 local staff. Apart from the Crew in Fumba, we have boat and engine mechanics, cooks, kitchen staff, food and beverage buyers, drivers, electricians, and office staff.
Our Leadership
Eleanor Griplas
Safari Blue is owned and personally managed by Eleanor Griplas. She believes in creating worthwhile, sustainable employment and training.
She doesn’t stop with Safari Blue. Eleanor is well-known and respected throughout Zanzibar. She contributes by supporting local schools and providing student sponsorships, outings for children and youth groups, infrastructure improvements in Fumba.
